What do parish councils do?
Councillors are representatives of the community; together they seek to make life enjoyable for the people of Burrough Green parish, as well as tackling local issues, and making decisions on behalf of the community. In the past, this has included building a new children’s playground, providing a new bus shelter and supporting the modernisation of the Reading Room.
The Parish Council is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of various facilities in the village, to ensure the safety of those using them and to keep Burrough Green looking beautiful.
What’s the role of a councillor?
We have 7 seats on the council, and members are supported by a part-time Clerk. The council usually meets every other month, to consider items of business and make decisions for action. From time-to-time the council may set-up working groups, which can meet up separately. Parish councillors are volunteers, with full training available if needed.
Could you be a councillor?
We are seeking active and committed applicants; councillors need to be able to spend approx. 5 hours per month on parish council activities including meetings, responding to emails and getting involved with projects around the village. Councillors also need to be IT literate and have facilities to access emails and documents sent via the internet.
